Introduction
Why Do We Wait for the Last Minute to Plan for Father's Day?
Father’s Day is coming up and if you’re anything like me, you’re still scrambling to find a gift. I have a good excuse though; I have a father and a father-in-law but they’re from different countries, so I’m usually buying gifts for father’s day in Australia and the US.
Father’s Day is one of those holidays where it can be hard to know what to get your dad.
Perhaps you don’t know where to start, or you’ve exhausted his gift list, or your mother has told you to stop buying him socks.
If you’re looking for something truly special this Father’s Day, consider these great ideas that will surely make him feel like the most-loved man in the world.
Here’s a reminder of Father’s Day around the world:
- Father’s Day in Italy/Spain/Portugal is Sunday 19 March, 2023
- Father’s Day in US/UK/Canada is the third Sunday of June (18 June, 2023)
- Father Day in Australia/NZ is the first Sunday of September (3 September, 2023)
- Father’s Day in Finland/Iceland/Norway/Sweden is the second Sunday in November (12 November, 2023)

Need even more ways to tell dad he is the best, you can do that elegantly with something like a leather valet – or tray organizer in layman’s terms – which I’m sure the mother’s out there will also appreciate because it gives dad a neat place to put all his random knick knacks.
Fashionable gifts
Let’s face it, there’s a reason why ‘dad’ clothing isn’t celebrated on the feeds of Instagram. Dad’s don’t often prioritize their own style, choosing practical or comfortable over fashionable. Father’s day can be an excellent opportunity to get dad something he wouldn’t get for himself, and to help him look like the cool, hip dad he is.

Accessories like a scarf, hat or belt are good too because they’re easy to add onto any outfit without looking silly, and they still check the mandatory ‘practical’ box that dads tend to have.

A smart casual shirt or sweater might be a nice change from dad’s worn tees, or golf shirts. Something he can wear on the next family dinner somewhere nice; dad will give Steve Carrell in Crazy Stupid Love a run for his money.
Food-related gifts
You know what they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. A food-related gift can be appreciated, shared and enjoyed as a family. It’s also one of those gifts he can savor, literally. Think about his food favorites; his go-to after dinner treat, or the look on his face when you agree to eat what he is craving. I love giving food as gifts because they show you know your dad in a special and tasteful way – pun intended.

There are many benefits that come with giving your dad a cookbook of his own. It’s a great way for you and your dad to spend quality time together, and you can make sure this book is filled with new recipes he will enjoy trying!

The best part about bbq rub and sauces is that they’re versatile, delicious, and easy to use, making them a super helpful grill-side helper for dad on his next cook-up. If you want spice up this gift, go all out with a truffle gift set.
Entertainment gifts
An entertainment gift is low hanging fruit when it comes to getting a gift that you know dad will love and appreciate. Celebrating dad on father’s day is about letting him have fun, try something new, and experience life with the permission and sense of adventure he gives to you. The right entertainment gift let’s dad be the kid for once, because he has probably spent more time working than playing.
